Week 5: Toast or Roast

So now we have had a few of these columns, have they helped you out?   You may have seen this named Start/Sit, Like/Dislike, or Love/Hate on other sites.  I am going to stick with the Jack Daniels theme so I will toast the players you should start this week, and Roast the ones you should consider benching.  NOTE: This column is not meant for your obvious fantasy starters like Aaron Rodgers or Arian Foster, but rather your mid-tier players you may have to make roster decisions with this week.  Feel free to leave me a comment letting me know what you think, and follow me on Twitter @JD_Honeycutt.  Let me know if you have any lineup questions for this weekend!

TOAST These Players!

Peyton Manning, QB, Broncos - A couple more solid weeks and Peyton will be a must start.  In other news, you guys should check out the QB link I retweeted earlier.  Beware that there is some language, but it is epic.

Philip Rivers, QB, Chargers - I know Rivers has had a slow start, but he is going up against a weak Saints defense this week.  If he struggles this week, it may be time to find a replacement.

Andy Dalton, QB, Bengals - Dalton has quietly put up great numbers this season, and he has another great matchup this week against the Dolphins.

Joe Flacco, QB, Ravens - I am not wacko for Flacco just yet, but give him the start against a struggling Chiefs secondary.

QB Sleeper of the Week: Christian Ponder, Vikings

Cedric Benson, RB, Packers – Benson has not been real consistent this season, but he is a nice play against the Colts.

Willis McGahee, RB, Broncos – Look for Peyton to get it in close against the Patriots, and for McGahee to punch it in from short yardage.

Michael Turner, RB, FalconsI have been down on the Burner this year, but all indications are that he has some tread left on his tires.

RB Sleeper of the Week: Donald Brown, Colts

Jordy Nelson, WR, Packers - Jordy has been a bit of a bust so far, but keep him in your lineup this week.

Michael Crabtree, WR, 49ers - Crabtree has been quiet, but I expect this to be his bust out game.

Jeremy Maclin, WR, Eagles - Maclin has been injury plagued, but with all the bye weeks give him the start despite the tough matchup against the Steelers.

Reggie Wayne, WR, Colts - Reggie is clearly Luck’s favorite target, and after some rest expect him to be sharp against the Packers this week.

WR Sleeper of the Week: Domenik Hixon, Giants

Dennis Pitta, TE, Ravens - Okay Pitta had a goose egg on Thursday Night Football, but give him another shot.

Kyle Rudolph, TE, Vikings - Rudolph is going up against a Titans defense that has allowed a ton on points to tight ends this season.

Owen Daniels, TE, Texans - Daniels is starting to cash in on his talent in the Texans offense.

Tony Gonzales, TE, Falcons - Not that you were thinking of benching him, but just in case!

TE Sleeper of the Week: Marcedes Lewis, Jaguars

Vikings D/ST – The Vikings have a much better fantasy defense than you think.

Dolphins D/ST - It is defenses like the Dolphins why I always wait to draft a defense, because it changes so much year to year.

ROAST These Players!

Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Bills - Fitzpatrick always seems to do this to us where he has a great start, and then slows down towards the end.  I don’t expect a great day from him against a stout 49ers defense.

Michael Vick, QB, Eagles – Vick has fallen out of the elite QB’s because of his lack of rushing production.  It is not likely you have a better option, but if you do consider benching him.

Alex Smith, QB, 49ers - This is more of a gut call here, but Kapernick was so effective as the wildcat QB last week I could see him getting in the game more often from now on.

Benjarvus Green-Ellis, RB, Bengals - I like Green-Ellis this season, but the Dolphins are allowing just over 2 yards per carry.

DeAngelo Williams, RB, Panthers - With Jonathan Stewart back in the lineup against the Seahawks, this is back to being a crowded backfield.

Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller, RB, Bills - Remember my rule about starting running backs against the 49ers?

Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Steelers – Mendenhall is back!  Give him a week to get his legs back before putting him in your lineup.

Pierre Garcon, WR, Redskins - Garcon is still dealing with a foot ailment, and reports are out that he is still not 100%.

Brian Hartline, WR, Dolphins - Hartline has a big week every other week, so put him in your lineup NEXT WEEK.

Andrew Hawkins, WR, Bengals - Everyone seems really high on Hawkins this week, but I just don’t see it.

Heath Miller, TE, Steelers - Miller has had some nice stat lines, but expect him to slow down against the Eagles defense.

Coby Fleener, TE, Colts - Fleener is not having the hot season I thought he would with Luck this year.

Jets D/ST - This team needs a heavy dose of Tebow time!

Chargers D/ST - The Chargers have had some good weeks lately, but the Saints is a bad matchup for them.
